Float Framing to Show of Artwork Edges
Floats are a distinctive way to frame your pieces, particularly if you want the entire piece, edges and all, to show (see detail image, below). The name, of course, comes from the fact that the artwork appears to “float” within the molding.
This signed piece on deckle-edged watercolor paper is mounted in a glass float with molding from Larson Juhl’s ‘Artifact’ collection. The collection uses ornamental, architectural elements and patterns along with leafed finishes to evoke the look of historical artifacts. As noted above, the floating frame doesn’t conceal the interesting, irregular paper edges.
